The love of my life and I was in a beautiful island of Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia on the summer of 2018. Like many Filipino, we bought pasalubong. It’s something we take back home for friends and family. We grabbed snacks that we don’t usually see, souvenirs for the little siblings, some trinkets for our parents and many other things until our hands are full. On our last day, we were packing, then we realized that our bags can’t accommodate everything we bought. Oh men! It is the result of too much of walking and buying little things. We re-arranged everything, and finally fixed it. Never doing that again!
Budget and Good Accommodation in Kota Kinabalu City, Malaysia
We left for the airport and got on the airplane. After few more hours, we were holding hands while walking to the arrival area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It was a long walk so we stopped for a bit. Then, he asked me, “where’s Kenneth’s bag pack?” I was stunned! We have another bag full of pasalubong and we left it somewhere. We did not panic but the bag was pricier than the stuff inside. The worst thing about it is that it was his brothers’ bag. I got frantic so I emailed the hostel we stayed in.
Thank goodness! The bag was in the hostel. After hours of conversation, asking for how much it would cost to deliver the bag back to the Philippines, and contemplating if we could just forgo it, we found another way how to send it back home. In a weeks’ time, they have another visitor from the Philippines, and they would ask them to bring the bag back to me.
Lesson? Don’t borrow someone’s bag. That’s not it. Do not get a pricey bag pack. That’s not it as well. Unexpected thing happened. In that situation, we could just forget about the bag. I could have left it in the car going to the airport or somewhere at the airport. Someone who found it could just keep it and never tell that they found it, right? That’s easy. But if we did not try to find out where it was, we would never have found out that we can get it back. Unexpected things can happen. It could be for the better or worst but if we want to achieve certain result we only need to try and step our best foot forward. Who knows what will happen next?

Two years later, I still keep in touch with the kind-hearted Filipina who gave me back the bag we left in Kota Kinabalu. We don’t know each other until I lost that bag. How amazing is that?
