Making a list of places for weekenders, backpackers, and YOLOs took me some time. Now, here it is. The list of my recommendation after going back to San Juan, La Union to beach bum or surf (kunyari lang) for countless of times.
1. Monaliza Surf Resort

This one is situated just in front of the beach. An unpretentious place for frugal travellers. Just what we are looking for. Food hubs like Salad Stoke and Barefoot made its way inside the resort and into my heart. Le Point bar which is also inside the resort made our night life far from boring. Do you know friends who only open up when alcohol get mixed in their blood? Yep! Right place.
Just make sure to contact Ate Mona, the owner, to reserve a room before hitting the road.

2. Barkadahan
It was not that long when we ended up in San Juan not knowing where to stay. I remember almost crying because of tiredness. Arte lang. Good thing a dormitory (bunk beds) is offered in Barkadahan. Even the name suggests a good place for friends. The room rate includes rice meal for breakfast.

3. The Circle Hostel
It was five years already when I learned about The Circle Hostel in La Union. They have branches in Zambales and Baler and I love both places too.
They also hold activities once in a while like Yoga Session. Few years ago I once was part of Sun Surf Strum Festival by Ukulele Manila. I can still remember it like it was just yesterday. So if you are also looking out for eventful vacation, remember, “THERE ARE NO STRANGERS” in The Circle.

There are lots of places in La Union that we haven’t tried yet but here is one we will definitely try next.
4. Angel and Marie’s
Years ago we know this place to offer good breakfast for hungry guests. This time around they not only renovated the restaurant but they also have rooms available to stay the night in.
