What happened on the 1st HEAT OF SUMMER?

The 2-days event at Pacific Recreation Kamp in Tignoan, Real, Quezon was on March 30-31, 2019. We traveled with number of guests, invited a Filipino Band, PusaKalye and a yoga enthusiast, Ivy Kaptein. The beach camping was something we want to highlight because Philippines has undoubtedly beautiful beaches. So there was music, yoga, games and experience sharing to get to know guests.

Why Heat of Summer?

At the Heat of Summer event, our goal is for the guests, the host community and our team to work together on a common goal. That is to enjoy every moment of the travel while trying to erase the Philippines as the 3rd largest marine litter contributor in the world. We felt that the best season to do that is when most are attracted to the beach. Thus, Heat of Summer.

What are your practices to attain your goal?

We know that to reach our goal, the movement or the event cannot be a one time thing. It was difficult at this stage to implement our goal but we value life and experience so we strive to travel responsibly even in what seems to be small thing.

On the first Heat of Summer, we took advantage of the modern technology so as much as possible we made everything digital, from registration to confirmation mails, and tickets. We made sure that the host community, guests and our team knows the goal. Also, to lessen waste generated during the event, we used reusable utensils provided by a local business who cooked food for us. After the event, we also took the time to check our campsite for whatever trash we brought in and to not leave any waste.

Are you eyeing for improvements?

Yes. The first event was not perfect. We are on learning stage. In fact, we asked some of our participants before the end of the event on what they think could be improved. We are happy that they are more than willing to share their experience of the 1st event.

What will be different from this event to the next one?

We will continue to host events like this one with the thinking that difference will lie heavily on the improvement of how we implement sustainable tourism and to make every experience unforgettable by travelling responsibly.

Are you happy with the result of the first Heat of Summer and when will be the next one?

We are very happy! We believe that with the right love like Libot Tayo’s passion on everything about travel and just like PusaKalye’s beautiful relationship with music we could SPARK the LOVE on RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL. You are invited on May 21-25, 2020 at the Island of Catanduanes for the next event.
